Penrith is located in the North West of England, just outside the Lake District National Park and within easy reach of the M6 motorway. Since the days of the Romans, the town has always held a strategic position on the route between England and Scotland.
Penrith is set in the Eden Valley and as you will soon discover there is plenty to see and do not just in Penrith but the surrounding area. As you would expect from its location, there are lots of hotels in Penrith that you can choose from and we’ll look at a small selection of these below.
1. The George Hotel – This is located in the centre of Penrith and has stood on this spot for more than 300 years. The hotel has comfortable rooms and you almost seem to step back in time when you go through its main doors. Certainly if you are looking for somewhere to stay that offers comfort and the chance to relax this is the place to stay.
2. Roundthorn Country House – It is situated on the outskirts of the town located on a hill so it has wonderful views looking down of the town of Penrith. The house itself is a Grade II Listed Georgian Mansion surrounded by beautiful gardens with views not just over Eden Valley, but the Pennines and the Lakeland Fells. Certainly if you want somewhere special to stay for a romantic weekend then this is the hotel for you.
3. Brackenrigg Inn – This is about six miles outside Penrith and used to be an eighteenth century Coaching Inn it has wonderful views looking out over Ullswater. The hotel has family rooms as well as regular doubles and singles and the bar has a roaring open fire where one can relax after you have spent the day exploring the area surrounding it.
4. North Lakes Hotel & Spa – This is styled to look like a traditional hunting lodge and is enhanced by the local scenery. It is made from locally quarried stone and features real log fires to literally make for a warm Cumbria welcome and help you to relax after a day’s fell walking or other activities.
However this particular hotel in Penrith which is on the outskirts of the town has much to offer both couples and families. The Trekkers Den is popular with children and there are regular activity programs for them to take part in. The hotel also has a wellness studio and a variety of spa features so you can pamper yourself if you want to.
