The home of golf, St Andrews, can be found in Scotland on the coast of Fife. It is in fact here that the Royal and Ancient Golf Club was founded back in 1754 and rules the game of golf worldwide, with the exceptions of Mexico and America. Every year the oldest of the four major golf championships takes place here, namely the Open Championship.
As well as golf courses, St Andrews also boasts sandy beaches. When looking for a St Andrews hotel regardless of whether your stay is for business, golf or relaxation you’ve got a wide choice available. Here we’ll examine a handful of the plentiful establishments this town has to offer.
1. Ardgowan Hotel – You’re just a couple minutes walk from both the university and St Andrews Old Course, which are in the heart of the town. It is in fact two Georgian houses which have been combined and were designed by the famous Scottish architect Sir William Playfair. You can choose from the hotel’s 19 rooms and you can relax in the private gardens around the hotel. All the food that is served both in the bar and restaurant is local produced and of the highest quality.
2. Links Hotel – This establishment can be found in Golf Place and is almost on top of the St Andrews Old Course 18th Hole. Dating back to 1824 this hotel has housed many of the world’s top golf players and hosted some of the first golf tournaments in the town. However, along with being situated so close to the famous Old Course you are only a short walk away from St Andrew’s Castle, Cathedral and University.
3. Old Course Hotel – If you’ve watched the Open Championship on television, you’ll have seen this hotel near the 17th Hole. It oversees the “Road Hole” and on a clear day you can take in the West Sands and Fife’s magnificent coastline. Although this is for the hotel for the keen golfer the hotel is also proud to cater for non-golfers and has a selection of therapy rooms to relax in, whether you’ve just played a round of golf or not.
4. Russell Hotel – The Russell is a terraced house next to the Scores, has views that look out over St Andrews Bay and the hotel has a Victorian theme. When you choose this hotel, you’ll be very near the Old Course, you can be standing on the first tee within a couple minutes of the hotel but it is just as convenient for you to walk into the center of the town as well.
5. St Andrews Golf Hotel – This is again not far from the first tee of the Old Course and some of the rooms offer the guests views that look over St Andrews Links and Bay. In recent years, it’s been turned into a boutique hotel that one can relax in whilst enjoying all that the town of St Andrews and the surrounding area has to offer. If looking for a place to stay that can organize a golfing holiday for you also this is the hotel worth considering.
