Although there has been a settlement at Brighton since before the Domesday Book was published it was until the 18th Century that it became popular. With the arrival of the railway into this seaside resort in 1841 Londoners would travel down to Brighton for a day. Once people discovered what the town had to offer on a day trip, they started to stay here for longer periods. Brighton has kept up with the times and is still a popular destination for conferences, weekend breaks and longer holidays.
Which means there are plenty of places to stay to choose from. Anything from large conference hotels, through boutique hotels and plenty of smaller, family run, establishments. All offering good quality accommodation which can meet anyone’s requirements and which won’t break the bank for many. Below we look at just some of the accommodation available in this seaside resort today.
1. Ambassador – This is a 4 Star B&B located in the centre of Brighton in New Steine and just a short stroll from the beach and all the other attractions that can be found in this resort. Originally a town house this turned into a bed and breakfast a number of years ago with comortable rooms complete with modern facilities.
2. Marine View Hotel – This is conveniently located in the centre of the town and its rooms look out over Garden Square, Brighton Pier and the English Channel. Again the rooms are very stylish and meet all the standards you’d expect from a modern hotel.
3. The Grand – Probably the most famous Brighton hotel and is right in the middle of the buildings that are located on the seafront. Certainly if you are looking for somewhere to stay that speaks of opulence and luxury this is the hotel to spend time in. It was first opened in 1864 and has been a popular hotel ever since.
The hotel hit the news in 1984 when it was subject to a failed assasination attempt on Margaret Thatcher. Although severely damaged by the bomb blast it was restored to its former glory and it opened again in 1986. The hotel’s owners took the opportunity to modernize the rooms during this refurbishment.
4. Cecil House Hotel – Although not on the same sort of scale as The Grand, this hotel does offer friendly and affordable accommodation. Again located on Brighton’s seafront opposite the West Pier you are just a short walk away from Pebble Beach. All rooms have en-suite facilities and 8 of the rooms look out towards the sea whilst the others have a view of a hidden French church in Brighton’s back streets.
5. Sea Spray – If you’re looking for a romantic weekend away or a special treat for yourself, the Sea Spray should be on your shortlist. This is Brighton’s leading boutique hotel with all the “extras” you would expect from such an establishment. Because of its location on Brighton’s seafront it offers wonderful views of the pier and sea.
