Milton Keynes is one of the newest towns to be formed in England. It was only actually given its designation of a new town as recently as 1967. It lies in the heart of the County of Buckinghamshire and is the ideal place for traveling to some other well known cities such as London, Cambridge and Oxford.
The Moore Place Hotel (part of the Best Western group) is housed in a beautiful Georgian Manor house and in the nearby village of Aspley Guise. It is situated 8 miles from Milton Keynes and makes the ideal base if you intend to visit either Oxford, Cambridge or London. It also has good links to Luton airport. For those families wishing to visit Woburn Abbey and Safari Park this is the ideal hotel to stay in the night before.
The Ramada Encore is set right in the centre of Milton Keynes and as you’d expect is fitted out to a high standard. If you’re staying in the summer, you’ll be glad to know the rooms are air conditioned and have en-suite facilities for their guests. Being in the centre of the city you’re close to the shopping and other delights that Milton Keynes has to offer. London has regular train services throughout the day so you can have an easy trip to the capital without having to stay in it.
For something a little more unusual again away from Milton Keynes itself is Linford Stables. The farmhouse building has 8 guest rooms and is set in eight acres of Buckinghamshire countryside. Four of these rooms are located in the main farm house whilst the others are in the stable blocks which have been converted. There is lots to keep you occupied at the stables. You can just relax on the terrace by the fish pond or wandering around the farmhouse’s country garden. The Queen Hotel in Milton Keynes caters for the more traditional visitor. It dates back to 1872 and used to be a railway hotel and although it has been modernized to meet the needs of visitors to it today it still retain a lot of its original features.
This hotel is situated not actually situated in Milton Keynes, but rather in the village of Olney which is a short distance by car from it. It is located in the very heart of this Georgian Market Town and just five minutes’ walk away are a wide variety of restaurants and pubs for one to enjoy. If your stay is over Shrove Tuesday the village has its annual pancake race whilst if you are staying over a weekend, be sure to visit the Farmer’s Market. Here you will be able to pick up some wonderful local produce to take home with you and enjoy.
The Different Drummer Hotel is found a few miles out of Milton Keynes. Located in the market town of Stony Stratford this hotel has a very illustrious history. Originally the Inn that stood on this site was known as the “The Swan With Two Necks” however in 1982 the name was changed to what it is known by now.
Even though much of Stony Stratford was destroyed by fire in 1743, the hotel’s Georgian stone facade has remained untouched. When it was known as an inn the Different Drummer was home to the Little Princes who Richard III kept here before they were then incarcerated in the Tower of London and where they eventually met their deaths.
